Strength and Resistance Training

Q: (Often asked by women), Will lifting heavy weights make me “bulky?”

A. No. Strength and resistance training will aid in the development of lean body mass, which in turn can help you decrease adipose tissue. This transition will leave you looking more and more lean over time, but moreover, will have a multitude of positive benefits on your internal health.

Nutrition

Q: What should I eat?

A: Food. Now I know this sounds like a smart aleck answer, but in its most simple form the answer is: eat food. The problem with our American way of thinking about health and nutrition is that it is fundamentally unhealthy. We read labels and obsess about macronutrients (Protein, Fat, and Carbs) with little or no knowledge regarding how our food effects our body. Real food doesn’t have labels, and there aren’t commercials about the best brand, because “real food doesn’t have ingredients, real food is ingredients” –Jamie Oliver.

Yoga and Pilates

Q: What is the difference between Yoga and Pilates? Which is best for me?

A: Yoga focuses on integrating the mind, body and soul which makes yoga more of a lifestyle than a workout, whereas Pilates focuses more on elongated postures and a well sculpted body. No one form of exercise suits everybody, and with stress being a major contributor to the decline of our health, a combination of both can be beneficial to the majority of the population.
